Gliding in Canada
Today I went gliding at Cu Nim Gliding Club, near Black Diamond. I helped around the launchpoint in the morning, then in the afternoon was offered a flight at club rates on a reciprocal arrangement, which was very cheap. The thermals were quite weak and the vario uncompensated, but I managed to keep the glider in the air for about half an hour. Unfortunately, I sort of botched the roundout, so I had the spoilers closed on me just as I was about to touch down, which resulted in a long float down the field...
Me + Blanik + Phil (instructor) = longest flight of the day!
The tailwheel tire (sic!) went flat as I was just about to take off, so we spent half an hour or so getting a new one fitted.
One of my tasks was filling in the gopher holes in the runway. I used this little tricycle to get from gopher hole to gopher hole. It was very unstable and could tip over very quickly, but in a straight line it was a lot faster than the quad, which served as the main retrieve vehicle.
A good day out.

Hey, what a great day you must have had at the Gliding Club. How did you get it fixed up?
All's fine here, David and I cycled to town yesterday, his bike is now in for a service. He then gave me some very welcome muscle power in the garden with a bit of leaf sweeping and autumn tidying and then proceeded to beat me at German Whist in the evening! He will be glad to escape to car club today. I am off to golf later, last of the mild weather before it turns much colder and wetter. Take care. xxxxxxx

Trust you to get some gliding done when you are supposed to be in Canada for the winter season!!
Sounds like a really interesting day...
Only another 220 days left of "Canada Time" - dead jealous!! Such a shame that Gap Years weren't invented when I was a student!
It's fairly pleasant here in California but my jet-lag avoidance is failing completely. Up at 4 today.... grrr!

Hey, I think those tyres are too big for the tailwheel of that tug. - JSD
