Fresh Tracks (all morning!)
Friday was a powder day!
I'd formulated a well-made plan to do not much on Thursday and to get up nice and early on Friday to enjoy all the fresh powder which was due to fall.
I succeeded in doing not much, in fact I did nothing all day. After a bit of personal admin and some food, picking up some paychecks and checking in at work to make sure I'd not left any nasty mistakes for them to clear up (which had happened the last time I'd gone in on my day off!), I'd headed down the gondola to get some stuff from town.
On arrival in the carpark, the buses had not moved. There had been avalanche control on the mountains overlooking the access road, which had worked very effectively, and there was now an avalanche sitting on the access road. Understandably, it took some time to clear, and by the time it opened again it was too late for me to bother going into town. So I rode the gondola back up, giving some career advice to the other occupants on the way, and went back to doing nothing.
Friday, the snow fell. In fact, the snow didn't stop falling until Saturday. Despite my plans to be up early and catch the first lift at 9:00 going wrong because I ate too much toast, I came straight off the first chair into knee-deep powder. And that's where the powder stayed for the rest of the day...
I skied around with Georgie until it was time for her to go to work, then skied around by myself. Mostly blacks with the odd blue or double-black, there was plenty of powder to be found and most of it in pristine condition too. And you can throw yourself at whatever jumps you fancy!
After lunch and about 3-4 hours of skiing, I decided the resort was getting too crowded and my larder getting to empty, so headed into town. Because I'd forgotten my camera while I skied, I tried to make up for it while on the gondola. As you can see, I failed...

Thanks for the blog latest update Colin. I must say I am mighty jealous of your knee-deep powder day. Thats the beauty of living right up there on the mountain, ay?
I was surprised at how full the car park looks - although I suppose it is moving toward high season?
Don't ski it all out before Mum and I get there in May!

Hey Colin! Looks and sounds like you're having fun up in Banff. The wintery weather has touched BC in some ways, but it's getting better. Have 'escaped' to San Francisco this week for some sightseeing and much-needed sun! It hasn't dipped below about 20 all week, bliss! May I just add that clinging on to a cable car going down one of the many steep hills is very scary, and that cycling the Golden Gate Bridge is very satisfying! Hope to hear from you soon!

Hey CJ,
How do you manage to keep your blog so fresh and interesting? Thank you so much for keeping us so well-entertained!
The wintry scenes say it all when it comes to your bumper snowfall and excellent conditions.
We've continued to have lovely February weather, clear, cold but sunny. I saw a motor glider scampering back (Northwards from West Wilts) at about 3.30 pm today.
Hope this week goes well - look forward to speaking soon.
