After-Hours Skiing and Stunting
From now until the end of the season, we will have evening skiing every Friday. One or two of the lifts will be re-opened between 5:30 and 7:30 just for our enjoyment... Last time was the serious powder day, and they didn't open Standish as promised because it wasn't safe(we didn't have the full contingent of Ski Patrol, for example). But yesterday, Strawberry and Divide (and therefore the terrain park) were opened up, and it was glorious.
With 800 staff working at Sunshine, if everyone had come along we would have had more people on the mountain than a normal weekday at this time of year! But it was mostly on-hill staff, so the standard on the slopes was pretty high. And most people were in the terrain park, pulling off crazy stunts:
Park Life
I had a go sliding a box sideways, but after seeing lots of people trying and landing hard on the metal, I thought I'd give it a miss after I caught a ski and nearly went over. 'Welcome to Freestyle skiing, Colin'...
The lower park wasn't in use because it was still being groomed. But at least I can add the name of another snow-cat to my list- Nelson. The others I have seen are Wedge, Sledge, Razor's Edge and Sirius Cyprus. I must confess I'm a bit of a cat-spotter but need to find out what the others (including the winch cats) are called.
