Bus to Banff

Sunday morning, I went paintballing with John's other son Will (but didn't bring my camera), which was fantastic fun. I wasn't exactly and assett for my team (having maybe killed two people but dying 4 times), but it was good to try it out- I'd do it again in England, i'm sure of that.
John and I then drove into Calgary, so I could catch a Greyhound bus to Banff. The journey was about 1hr 40, and I arrived at about 7:00 (by which time it was dark in the mountains). Muse and The Killers (particular favourites of mine at the moment) kept me amused, as well as an opportunity to chat to my old man...

Here are some impressions from the journey:

Leaving Calgary behind, we quite quickly came across Canada Olympic Park (home of Disney's Cool Runnings), where I am currently booked to take a ski instructor's course. I'll probably cancel that closer to the time, but I want to be certain I won't be instructing this winter.

By chance I caught this one of the plains, with the Rockies and some lenticulars in the distance.

The first snow!

When the greyhound arrived in Banff, I caught a taxi with a fellow traveller to the Alpine Centre. On arrival, I explained the predicament about my lost credit card. 3 minutes later, the vast majority of my cash had disappeared over the counter...

Feeling rather poor all of a sudden, I resigned to the restaurant for a cheap bowl of soup, and then to bed.

  • Dear Colin, We are enjoyimg your blog, so nice to keep in touch. We are hoping that you will be able to persuade the hotel management that you will be far more useful in reception than at the sink as you have previous experience. Keep trying and do not ngive up, there are several hotels. Love from us both, Nan,xx
