Bye Bye Snowboard

I got a call from Patrick (my old roommate) earlier on in the week, asking for the snowboard back. Since it's actually his, and he's been lending it to me for free so far this season, of course the request seemed pretty reasonable... So I decided to spend Friday on the snowboard for one last thrash of the mountain. But this plan sort of failed when I saw the weather. On a blue sky day with good snow and fresh groomed runs, I am NOT going to waste a day doing something badly which I'm not going to do again. So I laid in bed for most of the morning... Till Georgie and Steve came back from work and kicked me out to go for a ski.

This was one occasion when I really wished I'd brought my camera (which was lying, unloved, in my top drawer with the battery in the charger), since the weather was gorgeous and warm and Steve was making cliff-jumping look even more crazy than usual (probably because I was underneath, looking up...). We resolved to do every run on the mountain but that failed when we were 3/4 of the way round and Georgie was tempted to retrieve her laundry.

After some more scooting around the hill, the Georgemy combination (Jeremy and Georgie, who are pretty much inseperable) and I were tempted to avoid Staff Cafe and head into Banff for a meal (this seems to be a regular theme, you might notice...). Georgie went on the first bus to get shopping before the malls closed, Jeremy and I were to follow on in the 5:30 bus. 1 minute from the base of the gondola, I just mentally re-capped what I was going to do/get/eat/buy/drink/drop off in town, and top of the list was dropping off the snowboard. I looked into the snowboard rack of the gondola cabin and saw no snowboard. I looked back into the cabin and saw no snowboard boots. This idiot I know had left them in his room, locked it up and tried to head into town... So the idiot stayed in the cabin while Jeremy left for the bus, and rode the gondola all the way back to the top again...

After riding the blasted cold-cabin 3 times in a row, and now with snowboard and boots in hand (and MP3 in ear) I headed into town. Dropped off the gear and received a large luggage bag in return (oh yeah, now I remember lending you that!). Then Georgemy and I went upstairs to the Old Spaghetti Factoy and their cheap, tasty meals... Georgie surprised me with a little gift, too- a little book on 'Dating for Dummies'. Har har...

From the Spaghetti Factory to the bar. Then to the supermarket (bread, fruit juice, tuna/sweetcorn), back to the bar, then the liquor store then to the bus. Bus to gondola then gondola to bed. Good day, really.

  • So our intrepid ski bum has enjoyed another couple of busy days off. Glad to hear you stocked up on provisions and maybe the luggage bag came in useful as you carted it all back home. By the way, how long is the gondola ride from Banff - anyway so good you did it twice!!

Glad to hear you really are a skiier at heart and not a snowboarder - at least we can keep the family thing going for a few more years' yet. You will read the alternative Field Blog (via the email) from the Senior Ski Bum - who certainly wasn't going to be outdone this winter season!

Hope to swop news via Messaging soon. Take care. All Love. xx
