Colin In Canada

Ah. Back at work.

Up at 5:15, breakfast, walk to work. Two dishwashers on duty meant we were literally twiddling our thumbs after 10 minutes. So I got drafted in to cut up a few hundred strawberries, and from there I just did prep all day! The time really flew by and very quickly I was walking back to the SameSun.

After a quick chat with the family back home, I went with a roomate to buy tickets for Radical Reels at the Banff Mountain Film Festival next Tuesday. I'm glad we went since there were only 20 seats available when we went to book, and it was $2 cheaper if you book in advance. The Banff Mountain Film Festival is known throughout the world, and Radical Reels is extreme-adreneline videos from mountain sports throughout the world- I can't wait to see it!

We bought a bit more food, and I cooked us some more bangers, mash, beans and onion. Now I feel absolutely stuffed and have developed an inability to ascend stairs at anything faster than crawling speed...

Tomorrow, work again. An Albertan radio station is holding a Hallowe'en gig at The Caribou Lodge (the hotel which encorporates the Keg), and is fully booked over the next few days- we'll probably be serving (and therefore washing!) upwards of 1,500 meals per day this weekend. At least there's two people in the dishpit...

Early night tonight, that's for sure.

  • Thoroughly enjoyed reading about your 'lazy days' and it was great to chat on the phone too. Hope the Radical Reels proves as exciting as it sounds - what a great thing to do.

This weekend sees David under Dad's wing doing all those admin jobs and packing for his special sojourn to see you at Christmas. (You'll know only too well the feeling).... I also have a busy day ahead but this evening we will go down to the town centre to see the Carnival. At the llth hour the road works have been moved from the bottom end of the High Street to enable the procession to take place.

Hope the Hallowe'en gig goes well - sounds a lot of fun but obviously hard work for the staff. I wonder if you will be dressing up? You must been feeling well settled now and have learned a tremendous amount about prepping etc. Auntie J will be so proud when she reads your log because that has always been her passion - and to think you have background music as well - she would be in heaven.

Thinking of you and loving your blogs - ever thought of journalism?...
