2 days off at last!
I spent Friday morning sleeping, eating, laundering and skiing with a load of instructors. The snow was brilliant, and it wasn't too crowded with the whole mountain being open. We explored some of the new moguls, and cruised the blues at top speed taking whatever bump might give us some 'air'. After a couple hours of this and some more lunch, we went for another couple of runs then I headed down the mountain to Banff to do some admin.
Lookout Mountain (left) and Goat's Eye Mountain (right). Look, the chairlift turns into a gondola!
The view from the top of Lookout Mountain. Fantastic day, fantastic view, fantastic skiing.
Payroll had made a mistake on my last paycheck, and I meant to cash in their correction cheque- but forgot to bring it with me. So I soon found I was bankrupt! I could just about afford some more cereal (but no milk), then I went to visit some of the people who I met in the SameSun. I found their house by a process of elimination, and the first house I knocked on was answered by a familiar face! Success!
At 9:30 I was back on the bus to Sunshine, a pitch-black trip which included the eerie spectacle of a car, abandoned with its hazard lights flashing, on the Sunshine access road. I didn't volunteer to investigate, so we drove on. But we soon found the occupants at the gondola, looking for a pick up truck.
I spent Saturday skiing- but not just for fun. I was instructing my first pupil! Lisa, a girl from the Staff Cafe, heard I'd got my instructor's badge and wanted to learn to ski. I had nothing better to do and, being bankrupt, was not one to turn down a free lunch. So I spent most of the day skiing backwards stopping her sliding off down the mountain, at least until she got the hang of snowplough.
When she'd got tired and had enough, I went for a blast up Goat's Eye Mountain with another instructor, who thought he'd just picked up a random member of the public until he realised he recognised me from the Ski School desk. It was kind of rocky up there, but the snow was nice in the shade and the trails perfect for carving down.
I miss my mitten. I've searched long and hard, but there's no clue as to it's location, so I'm going to have to buy a new pair. Damn...
