Am I forgetting something...?

It was my brother. I'd kind of forgot about him. So here's an update on The Fink...

Friday, he moved up onto the hill with me. Sunshine employees are allowed a guest on the hill, and for a small sum they can crash with you at night (if you find them somewhere to sleep), and ski slash play on your laptop during the day.

On Friday afternoon, because we had some spare time and it was my day off, we decided to hire some Snowbikes. We got a 'demo' run, with a tame snowbiker who works as an instructor, up one of the chairlifts. By the time we got down, the question was whether to rent or buy them! But Phil, our guide, had a chat with the rental shop, and we were basically told we could use them for the rest of the day, no questions asked. So we blasted around the mountain, scaring even snowboarders (but not as much as ourselves), getting to grips with using the bike to carve or slide our way down. Once you get the hang of it, you put your feet up and lean and turn the handlebars, in the same way as you might control your edges as a skier, to steer the bike down the mountain. And they can really move! They were so much fun, and I recommend them to any skier who can get down blue runs. Experience on blades helps too. We even went down a black diamond! And, although we got 'the wobbles' a few times, neither of us ate snow while riding.

Yes. I have a large head. My helmet says so. Now the whole world knows...

So David hung out on the mountain during the weekend, I even slept on the floor for a bit so he could have a good night's sleep! We ate in staff cafe, and I think he managed to get out a ski for a bit (no bus to miss, you see...). On Monday morning, I delivered him to the base where he caught a bus into Banff, and I haven't seen him since...

It was great to have his company, he seemed to really get on well with my mates and the other staff here. But it was also nice to get back to relative normality, with only myself to worry about. I'm DEFINATELY not ready for parenthood...

  • Thanks so much for your long-awaited updates, Colin. Back to witty and informative articles that we have missed so much (sniff!).

Of course the "low-light" is still to come - that tell-tale sore throat on New Years Eve was the signal you missed; you might (just might) have been able to avert the lergi - but then again these little beasties are pretty tenacious and it can be a touch and go battle, even with all the medecines you want to hand.

Anyway, thanks for looking after your bro so well (and being so tolerant?) - I guess the mix of accommodating him for 2 weeks in Banff and 3 days in Sunshine was probably the right mix - so well done!

Now enjoy a few weeks of the quiet season and wrap up warm!

You have gone to colder climes wheras we are keen on warmer climes, must be something to do with age. With love and Best wishes always from us both. xx
