We went to lake louise, the end :D
Nah in reality:
From Dave (a random guest that decided to drop into see Colin for a few weeks)
I was rather startled one day when Colin decided to go to Lake Louise and he asked me to tag along. I was certainly in 2 minds about this, on one side; I would see another resort which I had yet to visit and I had heard good things about. However, I also was slightly warey about going as it would cost Dad the full price of a lift pass for the day. This is very different from my normal days up at Sunshine where I were able to optain a VIP pass from Colin as long as I remembered to book it 24 hours in advance (as I was repeatedly told by the chat himself). This saved alot of money and in the end, I was able to ski for only the price of some half price ski hire for the boots and the price of a bus ticket.
Anyway, back to the Louise story..... After meeting up with Colin at about 8am in the centre of Banff, he decided that he should get me to pay for his bus ticket to LL which I thought was rather reasonable because he had paid for a number of meals up to that point. I remembered that it Dad had asked us to hire some skis which he was interested in buying so we popped into the Banff Ski Hub on the way to the bus. We had a nice 10min trudge to the bus depot where we caught the shuttle to LL. To my displeasure, I found that it was a 40min bus ride. This was an suprise and especially that I found out when we were about half way there. We got there in good time and managed to find a nice seat in the cafe to change the boots. At this point, I must say that bro managed to have a minor heart-attack as he thought that he had lost his snood.
We chucked out bags and excess clothing into an electronic locker which cost an appauling 6 bucks. Luckily however, we had access to Dad's credit card so Colin charged it to that instead calling it 'Ski related spending' which I suppose that it falls under. We got onto the first lift without much trouble which was to be expected because of my newly purchased ski pass and Colin being staff and all that. After a couple of runs and a some cold feet, we decided to sort out my socks in the Gondola so we skiied back down to the bottom to catch it back up. This time however, the scanner decided that Colin's staff pass wasn't viable for the 'Black-out days' starting from tommorow. I sat on a fence post for the best part of half an hour waiting for Colin to find a member of establishment to sort out his slight problem. When the lifties had decided that the scanner might just be wrong, we headed up the Gondola with some other guys who worked in LL. This was useful as they told us that the snow was much better over the back of the mountain and was also a touch warmer. Seeing as this might be some good info, we headed over the top at the summit of the mountain.
Colin butting in here:
Canada has a moon, too. It looks just like England's, but I'm fairly sure it's at least 40 degrees colder.
Back to Dave:
I have to say that the Monster M72 skis which we had hired at the Hub were extremely nice at carving and were very soft for jumping. This might have something to do with the 'liquid metal' that was apparantly filling the core. After a few runs, we swapped skis and I had my first go on Colin's fancy instructors skis. They definatly had a 'cool' factor about them even if they were slightly too long for me. I somehow prefered Colin's skis over the much more expensive Monsters. To try them out properly, we went down a black that ran under one of the lifts. Colin managed to get stuck in a tree somehow and I was again waiting for him to untangle himself. Reaching the bottom, we found that he had managed to get his zip to stick on the teeth so when he got his lift pass out to scan, he couldn't close it up again. To make matters worse, when we reached the top the whole zipper managed to break off, this just shows how cold it was if his zip froze and broke because of the cold!
We thought that we should call it a day and after much sliding down the hill on the massive patches of ice that plagued LL, we reached the bottom. Colin was absolutely frozen by this point and had a minor tantrem while taking the skis to the bus because of frozen fingers. Finally after much effort and tears, we got onto the bus to return. After reaching Banff, we decided to stock up on Christmas presents and we caught a film at the local cinema. This was 'I am Legend' it was very entertaining and I have now watched it twice to date because it was so good. I headed back to the Samesun while Colin went back to catch the bus back to Sunshine Village. Overall, a good day out and although I enjoyed the skis and took a large chunk out of them while off-piste, we decided not to buy them for Dad.
Hope its fine, please add a few bits and add photos please
Dave

Definitely noticed the change of style and emphasis (and grammer...!) - looking forward to resumption of "normal service".

Well, it was interesting to read the blog from David's perspective and it is good he pulled his finger out to do so. One of the main points is that I am impressed how generous his brother has been in obtaining all those VIP passes, the paymaster is also most impressed! The conditions in LL did sound very challenging and the cold really is such a feature of Canada. Credit to you for sending Dave back in one piece.
Hope you have got your skiwear finally sorted and you get a bit more sunshine that the area should boast - or is it similar to calling a very tall man 'tiny'? Keep on blogging cos you've plenty of avid readers.....xxx
