A lesson learned the stale way...
Last night, monopoly again. This time I lost when, with only 2 mortgaged stations as my stake in the game, I landed on some hotels on Pennsylvania Avenue. Yes, the game is American.
This morning, I woke up and was surprised to see it snowing some more! We had another 15 cm in the last 24 hours, and there's more forecast for tomorrow. Here's the view that greeted me at the Staff Cafe- it doesn't look like it, but it was increcibly windy and dumping loads of powder, so basically a blizard.
Now, something a bit more serious. I came out to Canada to learn lessons, so I guess I'll never make this mistake again:
IF YOU ARE MAKING TOAST IN THE DARK, SQUEEZING THE 2-WEEK-OLD LOAF WILL NOT SUFFICE TO TEST IT'S FRESHNESS! A VISIBLE CHECK IS IMPERATIVE!
Here is the mould-covered bread I used this morning for breakfast- covered in mould, top and bottom. I thought it tasted a little weird, but I thought it must just be my mind playing tricks on me, or the toaster smoking a little...
Checking on my bread this evening, I wasn't really surprised to see a society of microorganisms, but it was still pretty disgusting! Only thoughts of lemon ice-cream (just about the furthest thing from mouldy bread I could think of at the time) suppressed the retching...
If I don't update blog in the next week, you will know what's happened!

Colin! That's disgusting! That's almost as bad as the horded crumpets we used to find in our drawers in Third Form! At least your bit wondering how one cleans ten years of baked on crap from the bottom of an oven, although I gather toxic chemicals are involved! And just to let you know, it doesn't snow in Vancouver (much), it just rains a lot! Hope everything is well and give Dave my best wishes as if my memory serves me well he should be with you soon!
Merry Christmas!!!

I know you're a scientist but the toast experiment defies logic. Yuk, where have you been keeping said loaf? If buying bread is a logistical problem (not monetary), then what about freezing some slices - they will still toast okay (although take a little longer) and am sure that anything rather than green spores will taste much nicer! Anyway, I trust you didn't suffer too many ill effects and have been able to rectify the problem soonest.
By now, your bro will be with you and I hope he's prepared for the blizzards. Hi David, if you are joining in with the Blog. Hope you have a great couple of days exploring Banff etc and shopping for essential supplies.
Take care of each other. xxxxxx

Oh a lovely thought to send me to bed with Colin, gross mouldy toast. Well at least you're working hard, I wish I could live off my wages, but I gotta stick with the family til they take me to Oz... I'm sure it's all gonna be worth it.
Sorry it's taken me so long to get round to this btw, life is hectic, but I'm sure you know that by now...
Anyways it's great to hear what's been happening, I'll check in again soon,
much love and Merry Christmas
Jemma
