Golden Sunshine
Tuesday brought my first day at Sunshine Village. Up at 6:00, beans on toast (again), walk to the bus stop just as dawn began to break, admire the lenticulars, meet up with similarly sleepy people. Bus to Sunshine.
Myself and a whole host of other employees spent the day at the Sunshine base station called Bourgeau, having lectures on many things pertaining to being employed with the company. This process is called Sunshine Gold, and is paid compulsory training for everyone. So we learnt about chemical safety, conditions of employment, how to look after ourselves on the mountain and what we get discounted as Sunshine employees. We watched cheesy videos, saw gory photos of how to shorten your ski season, and read handouts. But we were fed pizza and caesar salad, which were both fantastically filling, and went away from it armed with knowledge and a few freebies.
I went out in the evening with others from the SameSun, including my roommate, since I thought it might well be my last day there. We had cheap ($8) steak sandwiches at a local steakhouse, which were great. We had cheap ($1.75) highballs at a local bar, where we watched people play cheap snooker and enjoyed getting cheap drunk. Unfortunately, I took my camera with me:
